Sound Healing
I believe science confirms we are all vibrational, energetic beings and that vibrational fields influence their surroundings. The harmonic vibrations of Tibetan bowls are palpably relaxing to many and therapeutic on multiple levels. One study in 2016 found that singing bowl meditation reduced stress, anger, depression, and fatigue. That sounds pretty good! They usually cause an immediate centering effect and are often enjoyed at the beginning and end of a massage.
According to Tibetan oral tradition, the existence of singing bowls dates back to the time of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni (560 – 480 B.C.) They are composed of an eight metal alloy of copper and tin with traces of iron, lead, zinc, gold, silver and mercury. Traditionally the bowls are used to aid meditation. The harmonic tones set up a “frequency following response” that creates a balancing left/right brain synchronization. It is said that meditating on the subtle sounds of the Tibetan singing bowl tunes one in to the universal sound within and without.
I intend to study further and incorporate short 10-15 minute sound healing experiences into massages for any clients interested. I also have tuning forks I am starting to play with. Stay “tuned” for more!
